Digital Strategy for Schools

 

The Department of Education and Skills commenced a digital strategy for schools in 2015 -“Digital Strategy for  Schools 2015-2020: Enhancing Teaching, Learning and Assessment” - http://www.education.ie/en/Publications/Policy-Reports/Digital-Strategy-for-Schools-2015-2020.pdf

The policy focuses on 4 themes: 

  • Teaching, Learning and Assessment Using ICT
  • Teacher Professional Learning
  • Leadership, Research and Policy
  • ICT Infrastructure

 

The priorities of the Digital Strategy for Schools 2015-2020 are: 

  • to give clarity around the concept of embedding ICT into teaching, learning and assessment through adapting the UNESCO ICT Competency Framework for Teaching in the Irish context. This Framework will also help schools and teachers identify training needs.
  • to reflect technological and educational developments through updating the eLearning in Your School planning resource - http://www.pdsttechnologyineducation.ie/en/Planning/
  • to develop the ICT infrastructural requirements, including an ICT equip0ment grant and improved broadband services to schools – Circular 0001/2017
  • to promote Scoilnet and other services as the national reference point for high quality digital content
  • to enhance access to and impact of CPD for teachers
  • to develop technical support solutions for schools
