Students and Part-Time Work
While work experience can offer students valuable experience of employment and the workplace, it is vital that a part-time or temporary job does not interfere with your child’s education. If part-time work is interfering in any way with a student’s education, it should cease. The Protection of Young Persons (Employment) Act, 1996 is designed to ensure that employment does not usurp the important role of education.
ESRI produced an analysis of factors influencing students’ decisions to seek part-time employment and its impact on their preparation for and achievement in the state examinations. “At Work in School: Part-Time Employment Among Second-Level Students”, 2005 - www.esri.ie
