We are living in unprecedented times with unparalleled cutbacks in public services including education. Strong trade unions which give a voice to public sector workers and the users of public services are vital.
The ASTI represents approximately 3,000 non-permanent/ part-time teachers and we are conscious of their particular needs and concerns.
We will continue campaigning against the education cutbacks, particularly in relation to the increase in the pupil teacher ratio which has implications for the employment of teachers.
We will assert the rights of non-permanent and part-time teachers under legislation and particularly their entitlements to Contracts of Indefinite Duration.
