All second-level schools will receive an additional 4 hours 24 minutes learning support teaching (or .2 of a teacher) from this February due to the Renewed Programme for Government. The ASTI played a crucial role in ensuring that second-level was included in the Renewed Programme which was agreed by Fianna Fail and the Green Party last October. The Renewed Programme commits to an additional 500 teaching posts at primary and post primary between now and 2012.

The ASTI is urging second-level schools to give the extra hours to current part-time teachers who wish to transfer to full-time.
