The Minister for Education has published a Bill paving the way for the commencement of Section 30 of the Teaching Council Act, which when enacted will mean that only teachers registered with the Teaching Council may be paid through State funds.
The Education (Amendment) Bill 2012 amends Section 30 of the Teaching Council Act to allow for the employment of unregistered teachers who meet minimum qualification requirements for a limited period only in certain exceptional and limited circumstances, such as to meet urgent staffing needs.
It remains the stated aim of the Minister that all teachers in schools be registered with the Teaching Council and therefore fully qualified.
