ASTI General Secretary Pat King today welcomed the results of the Report on Retention Rates of pupils in second level schools. He said “that the fact that Irish schools have one of the highest retention rates in Europe reflects the fact that Irish parents and students value the importance of education and are very satisfied with the quality of education being provided. It is a morale boost for the Irish education system.”

The fact that 87% of girls and 82% of boys complete the Leaving Certificate programme means that they are far better prepared for work and life and more  likely to go on to third level education.  This greatly enhances their life chances.
