The ASTI will ballot its members on the Croke Park Agreement as clarified in recent talks between the ASTI and the Department of Education and Skills.
The ASTI’s 180-member Central Executive Council met today (Saturday, January 22nd) to discuss clarifications relating to the operation of the Agreement in second-level schools as agreed between the ASTI and the Department of Education and Skills.
ASTI General Secretary Pat King said: “The ASTI Central Executive Council has always been adamant that frontline teachers working in classrooms all over the country would have the final say on the outcome of the talks between the ASTI and the Department of Education and Skills. This ballot is of utmost importance as it has major implications for the pay, working conditions and job security of second-level teachers.”
A document has been issued to ASTI members which contains the outcome of the talks between the ASTI and the Department of Education and Skills. A postal ballot of members will be held over the coming weeks.
The ASTI is the largest second-level teachers’ union representing 18,000 second-level teachers working in schools all over Ireland.
