Bereavement / compassionate leave may be granted by a school management to a teacher on the death of a family member, subject to the following limits:

• 5 days leave following the date of bereavement in the case of a spouse, child or parent.
• 3 days leave following the date of bereavement in the case of a brother, sister, grand-parent, aunt, uncle or parent-in-law.

Substitute cover is provided by the Department in such cases.
