At the Teachers’ Conciliation Council on the 13th of December, 2000 the Department of Education and Science agreed to allow three days’ paternity leave with substitution to fathers of children born on or after the 1st January 2001. This leave must be taken within four weeks of the birth of the baby or within four weeks after adoption. Substitute cover will be provided. Department circular PPT 23/01 provides full details.
