As a teacher's contract is with his / her school, formal notification of intention to retire must be given to the school at least three months prior to retirement.

Application for pension benefit must also be made by the teacher to the Department of Education and Skills three months prior to intended retirement date. Application forms are available from the Department of Education and Skills.
