ASTI Education Conference: Senior Cycle redevelopment

After a number of years absence due to the pandemic, the ASTI hosted a major education conference on curriculum change.

The Minister for Education’s media announcement of proposals for a redeveloped senior cycle curriculum in March 2022 provides the backdrop to the conference. The conference speakers looked at the wider processes of curriculum change, the balance between conservation and innovation, educating students for the global challenges arising from the climate crisis, the rise of authoritarianism, the advances in artificial intelligence, the changing nature of work; and the crucial role and work of teachers.

‘Curriculum for the Future: Getting Policy and Practice Right’ is the theme of the ASTI Education Conference 2023, took place on Saturday 4th March in the Strand Hotel, Limerick

Presentations included:

  • Curriculum for the future: reflections and questions
  • Curriculum change and the teaching profession
  • Teacher unions and curriculum change: perspectives from Europe
  • Curriculum change at Senior Cycle: Panel Discussion

Each Branch nominated three members to attend the Conference. A limited number of additional spaces were available on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis.
