for members of the ASTI Salary Protection Scheme

ASTI has teamed up with Cornmarket to roll out a potentially life-saving breast and prostate health assessment and education campaign, for the second time, to thousands of members of the ASTI Salary Protection Scheme.

The Pink and Blue Power campaign was first launched in 2017, in response to the high level of cancer claims in the ASTI Salary Protection Scheme, and in recognition that 1 in 9 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, while 1 in 7 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer*.

The programme will be rolled out nationwide, on an area-by-area basis, from February 2022 with a focus on specific age groups; women age 30 – 49 and men aged 40 – 65**. The aim is to increase awareness of the signs and symptoms of these common cancers and provide members with vital education and the opportunity for a once-off clinical physical exam.

The initial GP/doctor appointment only takes 15 minutes and covers:

  • A clinical physical breast/prostate examination
  • Education on signs and symptoms of breast/prostate cancer
  • How to perform a breast exam (for women)
  • PSA Blood test for men (to measure Prostate Specific Antigen)
  • Personal report with clinical findings.

If further investigation is required, members are referred to Beaumont Private Clinic, or a participating Bon Secours Private Hospital for a consultation, scanning and, in a small cohort, a biopsy, if necessary.

The 2017 programme was a huge success.

  • Over 1,000 members booked the GP appointment.
  • A huge increase in awareness was recorded
  • 89% of participants said they were more confident to self-check after Pink Power
  • Cancer was detected in six members.

One participant said “The referral was very prompt. The treatment in Beaumont included a biopsy. This was all included in the service. The whole experience was invaluable.”***

Being vigilant makes a difference. Pink & Blue Power can help save lives so if you get an invitation, we strongly encourage you to book.

  • Women aged 30 to 49*
  • Men aged 40 to 65

If you are outside of these age groups, and notice any symptoms or have concerns, please contact your GP directly.

Who sends the invites?

When the programme is available in your area, you will be invited by Cornmarket** by post or SMS if you are eligible to attend.

When are the invites being sent?

  • End Feb 2022: Leinster
  • From April 2022: Munster, Connaught and Ulster

How long is this available for?

A deadline to book will apply. You will have a couple of weeks to book your appointment from when you receive the invite. This will be clearly marked in the invite.

Why is there a deadline to book?

Due to the volume of clinical resources required to run the programme, it is only available for a limited time.  Once the programme reaches clinical capacity, no new appointments will be made available, so keep an eye out for your invite and book early to avoid disappointment.

Who is delivering the programme?
