The Department of Education and Youth is offering a postgraduate training programme for teachers who want to improve their skills in teaching SPHE/RSE in post-primary schools. The programme aims to strengthen teachers' abilities and leadership in teaching SPHE/RSE. This professional development opportunity will be available to teachers in January 2027

The Public Service Agreement 2024 – 2026 provides that employers and trade
unions/associations may negotiate additional changes in rates of pay and/or
conditions of employment up to a maximum of 3% of the basic pay cost, inclusive of
allowances in the nature of pay, of the particular grade, group or category of
employee or bargaining unit. This may include proposals involving changes in
structures, work practices, or other conditions of service.

Temporary changes to the Career Break Scheme for Registered Teachers employed in Recognised Primary and Post Primary Schools - 2026/27 School Year

In response to issues raised in relation to teacher supply, certain restrictions
imposed in the Career Break Scheme have been suspended for the past
number of school years. This Information Note advises that these restrictions
are also suspended for the 2026/27 school year, effective from the date of this
Information Note.
Temporary changes to the Job Sharing Scheme for Registered Teachers employed in Recognised Primary and Post Primary Schools - 2026/27 School Year

n response to issues raised in relation to teacher supply, the restriction of
engaging in substitute teaching imposed in the Job Sharing Scheme as
contained in Chapter 8 (Paragraph 11.1(a)) of Circular 54/2019 has been
suspended for the past number of years. This Information Note advises that
the restriction will also be suspended for the 2026/27 school year.

Circulars 0073/2026 Teacher Supply Post Primary: Teaching Hours Extension Scheme for 2026/2027

A teacher can provide up to a maximum of 35 additional hours per term (as set out in para 4.6) to be utilised between during the 2026/2027 school year, at which point this scheme will cease.
