Donegal teacher wins ASTI award for service to union

A Donegal teacher will receive the 2018 ASTI Honorary Life Membership Award in recognition of his exceptional service to the union at a reception in Dublin tonight.

Neil Curran formerly a teacher at St. Columbas College, Stranorlar, Co. Donegal first joined the ASTI in 1977 and became a committed ASTI activist at school, regional and national level.

Neil served in a number of branch roles and became regional organiser for Donegal ASTI branch in 1997. After serving on the ASTI Central Executive Council for a number of years, he was elected as ASTI Standing Committee representative for Donegal, Iar Thuaisceart and Sligo branches in 2011. He has also acted as the ASTI NCCA geography representative ensuring ASTI input into the new Junior Cycle Geography.

Honorary Life Membership is the most prestigious award that can be bestowed on an ASTI member. It is given in recognition of singular and exceptional service to the ASTI involving substantial and commendable personal input.

Neil will be presented with his award by ASTI President Ger Curtin.
