Applications are being sought from ASTI members intending to contest the forthcoming Teaching Council elections in 2020 for ASTI endorsement of their candidature.

The ASTI has been informed that the nomination process for candidates to contest the 2020 Teaching Council elections shall commence in early January 2020.

Standing Committee has adopted an approach to the electoral process in order to seek to maximise the number of ASTI members who will be elected to serve on the next Teaching Council. The term of the next Teaching Council is 2020 to 2024.

There are a number of constituencies in which members may stand for election. The constituencies for election are set out below. It is the intention of the ASTI to endorse candidates who are ASTI members as follows:

Community and Comprehensive School Sector and Education and Training Boards Sector:

The ASTI has decided to restrict its endorsement to one member only in each of the constituencies comprising the electors whose voting category is determined to be the Community and Comprehensive School Sector and the Education and Training Boards Sector.

Standing Committee will decide on the ASTI endorsed candidate: One in the community and comprehensive school sector and one in each of the constituencies in the Education and Training Boards Sector.

ASTI members who are intending to contest the Teaching Council elections in these sectors who wish to have their candidature endorsed by ASTI should email their name and contact details together with an A4 page outlining their suitability to the ASTI General Secretary, [email protected] by 5.30p.m. on Tuesday, December 10th.

Voluntary Secondary School Sector:

The ASTI will provide endorsement for the candidature of all members contesting elections in both constituencies in this sector upon receipt of appropriate applications.

ASTI members who are interested in contesting the elections in this sector and would wish to have their candidature endorsed by ASTI should email their name and contact details together with an A4 page outlining their suitability to the ASTI General Secretary, [email protected] by 5.30p.m. on January 17th 2020.

Please note: Application for ASTI endorsement by ASTI members intending to run for the Teaching Council in 2020 is separate from the Teaching Council elections application process. All teachers wishing to run in the Teaching Council elections must comply with the Teaching Council candidate nomination procedures. For more information visit www.teachingcouncil.ie.
