ASTI to ballot teachers on Senior Cycle proposals
The ASTI Central Executive Council has voted to put the proposals contained in the document Senior Cycle Redevelopment – Implementation Support Measures to a ballot of the ASTI membership.
The document was published on Thursday May 8th following the conclusion of talks between the ASTI and the TUI and the Department of Education.
In a separate ballot, the ASTI will ballot members on a campaign of industrial action, up to and including strike action, in the event that the ASTI membership rejects the document Senior Cycle Redevelopment – Implementation Support Measures.
Speaking after the Central Executive Council meeting today, ASTI President Donal Cremin said:
“Today’s decision ensures that classroom teachers will have the final say on the proposals contained in the document Senior Cycle Redevelopment – Implementation Support Measures.
“Members will also decide on how the ASTI will proceed in the event that the proposals are rejected by the ASTI membership.”
The ballot will take place in the coming weeks.
The ASTI represents more than 20,000 second-level teachers all over the country.
