The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) will shortly convene language-specific task groups (LTGs) to support the work of the Leaving Certificate Modern Foreign Languages Development Group. A LTG for each subject will be convened to provide the language specific support for the LC MFL Development Group to develop curriculum specifications that align to the framework while also allowing each language to be seen as an individual entity within the broader framework.

ASTI has been asked to nominate one nominee to each of the following language task groups:

  • Leaving Certificate Lithuanian
  • Leaving Certificate Polish
  • Leaving Certificate Portuguese
  • Leaving Certificate Japanese*
  • Leaving Certificate Russian*
  • Leaving Certificate Mandarin Chinese*

It is intended that the task groups will convene in late April 2026 beginning with induction for the task group members, and that the work would take place between May 2026 and March 2027. It is anticipated that a significant portion of the work of the LTG will be undertaken during the summer months.

*It is intended that task groups for these languages will be convened in Q2, 2027 and that the work will follow a similar timeline to that set out above. Nominees to the task groups should have teaching experience in the language at senior cycle.

ASTI is inviting expressions of interest from members to serve on the above language task groups.

If you would like to put your name forward, please do so by emailing [email protected] by 5 p.m. on Monday 6th April 2026.

Standing Committee will determine the nominees for ASTI.
