The ASTI has been proactively advocating and engaging on behalf of members regarding the reopening of schools after the Christmas break. Standing Committee met on 3rd and 4th January. ASTI representatives have met with stakeholders, the Minister for Education and her Officials together with Public Health Officials.

We have added some new FAQs to our website related to the arrangements for reopening. In particular we await information from the Department of Education relating to several issues concerning leave arrangements in the context of Covid 19 infection, testing, close contacts etc. We will be adding this and more as further information comes to hand.

(Q) Has the Department of Education released an Information Note to schools to set out operational supports available to schools upon their reopening?

(A) Yes. The document sets out arrangements regarding Hygiene, Ventilation, Testing and tracing, Supports for Principals, Substitution and other matters.

(Q) Has the Acting HSE National Clinical Director of Health Protection issued further guidance to Principals on the Infection Prevention and Control measures required in schools at this time?

(A) Yes. It addresses a number of matters including:

(a) What to do before attending school.
(b) Re-enforcing general public health messages
(c) What to do when a confirmed case of Covid-19 arises that is connected with the school.
