Teachers can request medical masks from school

Following strong representations from the ASTI that schools be provided with medical grade face masks, the Department of Education has written to schools stating that where staff request medical masks, schools can purchase these through the schools’ procurement framework using Covid-19 capitation funding.

The Department letter states: “Where staff may prefer the use of medical grade face masks, i.e. disposable 3 ply masks with CE mark (e.g. EU Standard EN14683), or the use of respirator masks (e.g. FFP2 masks), both types of masks are available through the procurement framework that is in place for schools.”

A list of suppliers and product codes has also been supplied to schools.

The ASTI encourages all schools principals to consult immediately with staff and purchase these masks when requested to do so.
