ASTI recommends acceptance of Senior Cycle Redevelopment Implementation Support Measures and Addendum document - this page will continue to be updated in the coming days

ASTI’s Central Executive Council has decided to ballot members on proposals contained in the document Senior Cycle Redevelopment – Implementation Measures and Addendum, with a recommendation that members accept the proposals.

This follows negotiations between ASTI representatives and the Department of Education and Youth on additional supports for teachers and schools implementing the new Senior Cycle Redevelopment programme.

The ASTI had sought additional measures including extra funding and resources for schools, training and other supports for teachers, including legal protection for teachers regarding Additional Assessment Components (AACs).The new proposals constitute a significant improvement on the provisions of the original Senior Cycle Redevelopment Implementation Support Measures document, including:

A €2 million implementation grant for schools
A laboratory and digital support assistants pilot scheme
Defined legal protection for teachers/ principals regarding authentication of coursework
Additional targeted training for science teachers
Clear parameters for assessment in subjects awaiting revision under the Senior Cycle Redevelopment programme.
