Report on Challenges Facing Island Schools

The ASTI has welcomed the report from the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Education and Skills on Off-shore Island Schools.

Recommendations in the report include:

  • The reinstatement of the island allowance for teachers in island schools as an incentive for accessing and retaining teaching staff;

  • Inadequate School Budgets - an annual increase of €20,000 per post-primary island school;

  • That DEIS status be awarded to the five post-primary island schools concerned.
