ASTI expresses support for history and geography as compulsory subjects at Junior Cycle

The ASTI has written to the Minister for Education and Skills Joe McHugh to add its voice in support of the movement to retain history and geography as compulsory subjects in the Junior Cycle curriculum.

In particular, ASTI shares and supports the “deep and profound concern” expressed by the President of Ireland Michael D Higgins that history will no longer be a core subject in the Framework for Junior Cycle.

It is important that the wide range of subjects and diverse learning experiences that have been a feature of Irish second-level education for several decades remain accessible to all students.
